Oakland Black Business Fund.

LONG STORY SHORT: This fabulous, volunteer-run organization launched in the wake of the nationwide protests after the murder of George Floyd. Their mission: support Oakland, CA based Black businesses with capital and technical assistance to elevate Black entrepreneurs as thriving leaders in the local economy.

OBBF tapped Born and Raised Marketing to oversee it’s Community Engagement and Grant Fulfilment operation, a service we continue to provide on a pro-bono basis. Please consider donating to this wonderful fund via the link below!

Red Bull: Oakland Cuts.

LONG STORY SHORT: Yes, we’ve all seen the cartoon ads and that guy who jumped from space that one time! But, beyond the massive Red Bull marketing campaigns and hundreds of events programmed in the US every year, Red Bull values “giving wings” to diverse communities and celebrating talented creatives, non-profits and activists!

Red Bull wished to create an event that celebrated community changemakers while supporting young creatives in the Bay Area. Born and Raised created and executed a 3 month mentorship program in partnership with youth film organizations, United Roots Media, Reel Stories and Youthbeat.

Ten filmmakers between the ages of 18 - 25 wrote, produced and filmed a series of profile pieces for 3 local changemakers in their community. The project culminated in a packed premiere event and panel discussion at the beloved independent cinema house, the New Parkway Theatre.

Soul of a Nation @ the deYoung.

LONG STORY SHORT: In addition to our corporate clients, we’ve had the pleasure of working for some of the top cultural institutions in the country! San Francisco’s de Young museum reached out to Born and Raised to launch their new “Free Saturdays” initiative designed to remove the barrier of cost to quality arts programming and welcome a new, diverse group of patrons to the museum for their “Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power 1963–1983” exhibit.

Born and Raised Marketing packed the de Young museum with a fresh young crop of art-loving patrons by curating “Reaffirm the Right to Gather Publicly:” a day of programming featuring hip-hop legends Souls of Mischief who screened their documentary “Til Infinity” with artist/filmmaker Shomari Smith in the Koret Auditorium and performed a classic set in the de Young’s most prestigious space: the Wilsey Court.

For the kids, we invited non-profit education org Akira’s Book Club to offer a series of reading and art workshops in the Piazzoni Murals Room!

TNT NBA All-Star Game.

NBA All-Star weekend was kicking off in NYC and for the first time splitting programming between two venues (MSG and Barclays.) Turner Sports realized that the expensive all-star experience would be unattainable for 99% of NYC's basketball fans.

Born and Raised was honored to get the call to ensure the community was represented. We transformed Levels Barbershop locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn to TNT viewing hubs complete with live djs, free food, haircuts and NBA All-Star gear.

TNT loved the results so much, on day 2 they sent a film crew to capture b-roll from the shops for their national broadcast. Imagine an 11 year-old watching the broadcast on TNT and seeing himself appear on-screen (even better, click below to see it!)
